Many of us proud residents of De Pere know of its rich history, thanks to resources from organizations like the De Pere Historical Society and the White Pillars Museum. These resources often consist of old photos, vital records, and news stories. But when it comes to the history of a community, I also look at a couple of additional dimensions:
The Walleye Run is almost in full swing on the Fox River in De Pere, Wisconsin, and the waterways are a mess! I've made it my MISSION, JOB, ADVENTURE, LIVING (etc) to go into local rivers and lakes to clean up the mess and mishaps of us humans.
On today's episode, we went back up to de pere and pulled and all nighter in search of some walleye! The bite was pretty inconsistent but we got a lot of numbers however not a lot of size yet. Enjoy!

This video showcases aerial shots of 3 beautiful historic buildings in De Pere, WI, including the Main Hall of St Norbert College! Significant in the history of De Pere, these buildings are well-preserved and worthy of appreciation. I used the DJI Air 2s drone to get aerial video of these buildings. The first structure is currently functioning as a small museum, and was built in the Greek Revival style of the 19th century. Next, is a Dutch Colonial house along the river on a public walkway. Last is a Romanesque Revival hall, the center point of the St Norbert College campus.
On Sunday, May 16, 2021, Mike Walsh, former mayor of the City of De Pere, was granted an honorary degree by St. Norbert College for his many contributions to the city and the greater community. This video is queued up to the spot where the college recognized Mayor Walsh, with a short history of his contributions.

In 2021, St. Norbert College started a video series titled "Behind The Arch", in which they shine a light on the folks from the college. Staff from the office of Alumni and Parent Relations share interesting information about the history of the college and the area.

When Main Hall was built in 1903, the niche above the front doors was left empty, which is how it stood for over 100 years. In 2006, a statue of Mary was placed there. Ten years later, the statue of Mary was replaced with a statue of Norbert.

In 1999, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and its first pastor Fr. Conrad Kratz produced this video of the history of the parish. This film provides a broader history of the Catholic church on the west side of De Pere, including St. Joseph (the French), St. Boniface (the Dutch) and St. Norbert College parishes.
An investigation at the Union Hotel. The Union House Hotel is the oldest continuously operated hotel in the area. The hotel was begun just one year after a catastrophic fire destroyed almost all of the older commercial buildings on Broadway. The fire consumed three of the city's older hotels, creating a demand for lodging that led Nicholas Altmayer to construct this hotel beginning in 1883. Two years later, Altmayer doubled the size of the building and in 1903 his son, Fred Altmayer, added a third story. By Zondra Mae.
